The
organiser and founder (1986) of the Italian Chamber Orchestra - Centro
Studi Musica Sud of Soverato is Maestro Giovanni Froio. The orchestra
has performed in a number of theatres in the Calabria Region, including
the "A. RENDANO" theatre in the city of Cosenza, the Municipal
Theatre of the city of Catanzaro, and on several television channels
such as Rai TRE, Video Calabria, Telespazio Calabria and Telemontecarlo
and was very favourably received both by the critics and the public.
The Orchestra's success was crowned by its performance on Rai UNO in
the television programme"IL SABATO DELLO ZECCHINO" Special
Epiphany Edition.
In
1991 it was awarded FIRST PRIZE at the "St. Vitaliano" National
Competition, city of Catanzaro, and won a prize at the "CALABRIA
PRODUCE" exhibition. In 1992 it participated in the 5th Mediterranean
Festival of the Two Seas in Altomonte and in the 1994 "MUSIC AND
ARCHITETTURE"Festival in Gerace.
After
this valuable cultural experience the orchestra crossed the sea and
went on tour in NORTH AMERICA in 1994, performing in the cities of:
TORONTO, BOSTON, WORCESTER, NEW YORK, PHILADELPHIA, BALTIMORE and WASHINGTON
D.C.. In 1995 it performed in ANTIBES in France and made a compact disk
of the America Tour. In 1996 it went on its second Tour of America and
performed in the cities of NEW YORK and WORCESTER. In 1999 the Orchestra
held its third North America Tour playing in the cities of WORCESTER,
NEW YORK, BOSTON and CHICAGO.
The
concerts were very favourably commented by the international press.
